The stand-alone digital cameras are facing a tough competition from the mobile world. Now the latest one into the market is 'Samsung M8910' - Pixon 12: the 12 megapixel camera phone!! Couldn't quite believe it right?? This phone redefines the camera phones. With the Xenon and double LED flash, you can almost forget the digital cameras (but for the optical zoom, which is still not present in most of the phones).
Samsung launched this phone in the CommunicAsia 2009 conference at Singapore. It is expected to hit the European markets by the end of August. It has features like 3.1" 16M touch-screen (latestTouchWiz 2.0 UI with smart unlock facility), HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi, bluetooth, GPS with A-GPS facility, micro USB port and TV out.
The speciality of the phone is its camera. It has got a breath-taking 12 mega pixel camera with 'object tracking' auto-focus, wide-angle 28mm lens, automatic lens cover, geo-tagging, Smart auto mode, face detection, Beauty shot, Smile shot and D1 video recording with auto-focus and face detection. The image resolution is a whopping 4000 X 3000 and each image is around 3.3 MB. You can set the ISO rating up to 1600 but you won't get any usable images at this setting. Video recording is mediocre.
Object tracking auto-focus is one of the first of its kind. While taking a picture, if you need to focus on a particular object, you just have to touch it, that's all !! This camera will shift the focus on that in a flash ! This is real beauty.
The image gallery is slightly refreshed. It offers three different views : grid, list and zig-zag. The last one being the best. It was also faster when it comes to scrolling thro the images. Samsung has introduced 'one finger zooming' concept in this one. It takes only a single move of your thumb. You just need to hold the screen for a few seconds and then move up or down to zoom in or out respectively.
Overall, it is good phone for the camera lovers. The downside is the 150 MB of internal memory and 16GB expandable micro SD slot. Now a days, there are phones with 32 GB and even more. But we will have to wait for its pricing before we comment further. We will do a detailed analysis once it is released in the market.
