Sony Ericsson's k850i amidst all expectations, is finally out in the stores. This is one of the major phone which everyone was expecting in the market in the 5 mega pixel range. At last their wishes are granted. Its dimensions are quite similar to k790i (3 mega pixel variant) with 102X48X17mm and weighs around 118g. It has increased the screen size from 2" to 2.2" but the screen resolution is maintained at 240X320 pixels with 256k. The built-in memory is only 40 mb, whereas it is extendable up to 2 gb through a micro SD slot.
Coming to its camera, which is the main feature of this phone, it is looking good. But when compared to its 5 mega pixel counterparts like N95 still lacks some colour. But it can be re-introduced, so no problems in that. Cyber-shot feature is cool one which is available in this phone too. The picture resolution is a mind blowing 2592X1944 pixels. Of course it is provided with high power Xenon flash.
The video quality is improved by using QVGA video recording at 30 frames per seconds. There is an additional feature of 3 LED supply for video recording which was not there before. But video quality is well below par when compared to the nokia counterpart. They have provided a secondary video call camera in the front.
Besides these things it also has the normal features like FM radio with RDS, MP3/AAC/MP4 players,Track ID music recognition and a motion sensor. It also features image editor, video editor and direct Blogging facility. The standard battery life is 9 hours of talk-time and 400 hours of standby time.
Though this phone features a 5 mega pixel camera, I expected some features which are missing. For example there is no optical zoom in this and they have removed the IR port (though it is of little importance). I thought they will import some of the features of Sony Handicam into this, like multiple face recognition, good image stabilization etc but they have failed to do so. My rating for this one is 3.8 out of 5.
