Finally Team India has got its coach after a span of nine months. BCCI officials confirmed that former South African opener, Gary Kirsten will be the new coach of team India from March 2008. He was offered two years contract. He said that he was surprised by this offer and admitted that it is an honor to coach Team India. Gary has decent ODI record with an individual best of 188 not out. But he has no experience in the international arena, as far as coaching job is concerned. BCCI's decision to field a foreign coach for Team India has not gone well with some of the former cricketers. Many feel that Team India is doing well under the current manager Lal Chand Rajput with Robin Singh and Venkatesh prasad as Fielding and Bowling Coach respectively. But as a compensation BCCI has appointed Lal Chand as assistant coach for India's tour of Australia. During the previous selection process only one Indian was considered that is Mohinder Amarnath but now none of the former players were considered. Cricketers like Kapil Dev, Sandhip Patil and many others expressed their concern over this issue. Only time will tell whether Gary's selection is good for Team India or not.
